The Holidays!

Busy with the holidays. Butas ang bulsa! hahahaha Bahala na as long as I’ve made other people happy, it doesn’t matter.

So many things happened to me the past days!

Enjoyed reunions, parties and there’s no need to elaborate more because still it talks about food, fun and so much fun to see old friends and relatives from afar.

And this, SSSSSSSSSSSUUNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOGGGGGGGGG! nasunog office namin due to faulty wiring. While I was on my way Davao City from Padada (An hour and a half travel), Melody Anne called me up informing that our office is on fire! Nyahhh I am hysterical that time not because of my office files but because my personal files which I left in the Steel Cabinet for some reasons. The clear book where I organized my files contains my Original Birth Certificate, NSO Authentications of Several Documents, TOR, Diploma, Red Ribbon/DFA Authentication, Passports (mine and zaina’s), and other important documents!. When I get to the office compound I saw half of the office burnt, as the remains of the fire. I hurriedly went to the steel cabinet and it was still there. The Fire Inspector warned me not to open the steel cabinet for it may still be hot. When I told him that I just want to take a peek if my personal files where ashes or what, he let me open it after several minutes seeing my face so anxious. I took my keys and opened them, hayyyyyy I almost sat on the floor to happiness that everything was intacked. Another lesson learned and should be included in my new years resolutions – keep your important documents to the safest place.

I have a short list for new years resolution and a long prayer for endurance and patience! I am excited to what year 2009 awaits me and most thankful for the abundance of year 2008.

Preparing My Christmas List

I will be a Santa Clause for the coming holidays for my loved ones. They say its more fun to give than to receive! yeahh but still loved to receive one hahahhaha!

At this point, I’m bound to list the persons I ought to give some presents for Christmas except for those compulsory hhhihihi like my daughter Zaina.

I have to start with my relatives from Mati, like uncles and aunts and cousins especially lolo and lola. On the other side- King’s family. King spared a budget for everyone to receive little presents not necessarily coming from UAE but coming from his sweetness through me. Hmm they better be good hehehe.

Excited for the coming Holidays that I have to do things early so I won’t go panic and must prepare and keep things in order. I know Christmas is for kids but still I think like a kid so I consider myself as one so that would be it. Yey! I will have much presents, anticipating (wahhhhhhhhhh)!!

Had to spare extra budget for the gifts, food and some nice clothes. Pinoy! That’s how we Filipinos spend Christmas but the greatest part is the time we spend to gather and celebrate the season. With me and my cousins do carols to our loved ones and end up bargaining each other with one peso coin. All things so priceless.

Would it be the same this coming holidays?

Kalag-kalag 2008

In tagalog Halloween is called Undas, here in Mindanao its called Kalag-Kalag. Kalag means ghost and kalag-kalag means ghost-ghost, no! was just kidding. That is just how they call them so we follow with no questions. He he he.

We spent kalag-kalag at my place in Mati, Davao Oriental, where beaches are clean. But we didn’t go home to swim. We had a little lunch at my moms grave last November 1, 2008. My Uncles, Aunties, Cousins, Lolo Marcelino, Lola Presentacion and the rest of the gang hehehehe were there enjoying a 15 kilo litson with kinilaw and crab. Yummy! With the scent of the cemetery, hmmmm air was so naturally decaying? hehehhe joke!. We were at the public cemetery and not on private ones, just visualize how it looked like. But the feeling of peace and love from my family is like of the old times. If you have followed the last post I did, I said I don’t normally go home for several reasons that is why I enjoyed the moment with my mom rested and my relatives having a little chitchats.

That’s it for kalag-kalag 2008.

Colors of Kadayawan Festival 2008

Kadayawan 2008 is a festival for the abundance of good harvest from crops to flowers. Indigenous people (lumads)celebrates it through ethnic dances and dancing.

We had fun roaming around the festival highlights like the indak2 sa kadalanan (street dancing) and the floral parade. Floats made out from flowers molded in artistry and perfection.

Zaina’s Birthday

On preparations: With the venue:

I scanned over the Davao’s telephone directory to find several venues to host my little girls birthday. Its not easy to find them. I may have find some but considering the budget and and the accessibility. I even had research on the net, hoping to find ideas. Despite the effort, still had none to consider. Until considering my aunts suggestion to hold it at Geojoe’s Restobar, located at ecoland drive. We filled the place with balloons designed like flowers with stem. And scattered some of them on the floor so the kids can play with them.

On tarpulin:

I designed it using the Microsoft power point and saved it as .jpeg but when I had it printed the printing press said that images will be distorted so I have to make new lay-out, I dont know how to do it on Adobe Photoshop so I went to nccc mall at reppapepz stall as per anne’s advice. The following day Anne and I went out to canvass for some cheap printing and were adviced to pick up the tarp the next day. Some unexpected things happend. The shop was attack by a virus and so files were deleted. In short, tarp was not printed. hhahahah hayyyyy to make it short just the day before the big event we finally had a wonderful tarpulin.

On Souvenir:

We bought some shot glasses then fill it with silver dust, cotton and some stars origami. then covered it with corrugated paper and pasted Zaina’s thank you message.

On cake:

Cake was ordered at Goldilocks four days before her birthday and then we just picked them up.

The clown:

II hired a clown to make the event more fun. He had balloon twisting, magic tricks, the puppet show and the games.

Busy Days

By August 5, 2008, Zaina will be celebrating her First Birthday, that is why I am quite busy these days. I went looking for venue, clowns/magicians, designed the lay out for her tarpulin (above photo), went out looking for guests tokens, and still preparing for the invitations and so with the balloons.

I am halfway done with the preparations. I have now a venue, still doing with my personalized tokens, clown/magician is okay and others still puzzling. Hay, things are a little drowning but sure to finish before our special day.

The Boodle Fight

We went to Laak, Campostela Valley for MinSSAD Sub-Projects Turnover last July 1, 2008. A ride from Davao City is about three hours on a long rough road. My back is a bit aching due to humps of the road but is certainly a real great ride.

One thing that I remember most about the trip is the experience of boodle fighting. The fight isn’t like that of boxing. Boodle fighting is a military style of eating.Three long table were prepared and food are on top of the banana leaves. Viands and rice ready to eat using your bare hands. Of course jugs of water are prepared on the side for us to wash our hands before the combat. With the signal to start the boodle fight everyone had their position. Yeba! Ready get set, go!
